Hills and Bugs

Mile 10 this morning: we took a short break at 5 and a little longer break at 10. I am feeling tired. We break long enough to rub feeling back into our butts.

We pedaled 65 miles today. We were going to do 70, but as we got ready to pedal up this humongous hill that was 6 to 8 % grade and over three miles long Kathy came along, so we put our bikes on the car and drove up. Very nice break. If we had pedaled up that hill I am sure that I would be dead. Today was all hills. Up a mile and down a mile. The down hills are nice but they don't last near as long as the uphills do.

We ran into a bunch of black flies today. The mosquitoes don't bother us while we are riding, but these black flies were biting us while we were riding. We both about had a wreck swatting at them. We stopped and as fast as we could, before we were eaten alive, put our long riding pants and long sleeved riding shirts on and lathered our faces with bug repellent. Looked a little funny to those driving by I am sure seeing the two of us pulling off shorts and shirts and putting the long stuff on. Do you remember what I wrote a couple days ago about black flies not making a welt? I was wrong. They make a biggggg one and they draw blood too. When we got into camp tonight I was more tired than I have ever been in my life. I am not sure who thought up this idea. :)
